{"id":64,"date":"2025-02-23T17:54:15","date_gmt":"2025-02-23T17:54:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=64"},"modified":"2025-02-23T17:54:15","modified_gmt":"2025-02-23T17:54:15","slug":"wta-indian-wells-2025-entry-list-emma-raducanu-gets-direct-entry-as-big-name-wildcard-confirmed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=64","title":{"rendered":"WTA Indian Wells 2025 Entry List: Emma Raducanu gets direct entry as big name wildcard confirmed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The third WTA 1000 tournament of the 2025 season will take place in Indian Wells, and the entry list confirms there will be a star-studded field at the prestigious event.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Indian Wells Open, which will run from March 5 to 16, will be the 36th edition of the WTA tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The hard-court event in the Californian desert is considered one of the biggest tournaments outside of the four Grand Slams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Iga Swiatek<\/a> is the reigning Indian Wells champion, having beaten Maria Sakkari\u00a06-4, 6-0 in the 2024 final.<\/p>\n<p>The Polish star will defend her crown, while world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka will seek her maiden Indian Wells title having been a runner-up in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>World No 3 Coco Gauff, Australian Open winner Madison Keys and Emma Navarro headline the American interest, with the trio all set to be seeded in the top 10.<\/p>\n<h4>How many players will feature in the main draw?<\/h4>\n<p>The Indian Wells women\u2019s singles main draw will be contested by 96 players, a total made up of\u00a076 direct entrants, 12 qualifiers and eight wildcards.<\/p>\n<h4>Which players have received wildcards?<\/h4>\n<p>Two of the eight players who will receive main draw wildcards were announced recently and they were: Venus Williams and Petra Kvitova.<\/p>\n<p>Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam singles champion and former world No 1, has not played since the 2024 Miami Open, but she will not make her return to Indian Wells as she turned down the wildcard due to prior commitments.<\/p>\n<p>Kvitova, a two-time Wimbledon winner and former world No 2, has been absent from the tour since October 2023 as she gave birth to her first child in July last year.<\/p>\n<h4>Which former champions will play?<\/h4>\n<p>Five former Indian Wells champions have entered: Swiatek (2022 and 2024), Elena Rybakina (2023), Paula Badosa (2021), Naomi Osaka (2018) and Victoria Azarenka (2012 and 2016).<\/p>\n<h2>WTA Tour News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/youngest-players-10-wta-1000-jennifer-capriati-15-mirra-andreeva-enters-list\"><strong>Youngest woman to win each of 10 WTA 1000 events: Jennifer Capriati won a title at 15, Mirra Andreeva enters list<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/wta-rankings-winners-losers-middle-east-aryna-sabalenka-1000-points-lead-madison-keys-2\"><strong>WTA Rankings Winners &amp; Losers Middle East: Sabalenka +1,000-point lead with 1 win, Keys +2 with 0 matches<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Have any players withdrawn?<\/h4>\n<p>As things stand, no players on the\u00a0WTA entry list have pulled out of the event.<\/p>\n<h4>Have any players used a protected ranking to enter?<\/h4>\n<p>Players who have been unable to compete in any tournaments due to injury for a minimum of six months are eligible to use the ATP protected ranking system.<\/p>\n<p>The protected ranking will be determined by the player\u2019s average ranking position during the first three months of their injury. They can use the protected ranking to enter nine tournaments and for a period of nine months from the first event they play after returning.<\/p>\n<p>Irina Begu, Lauren Davis and Caty McNally\u00a0have all used a protected ranking to gain entry into the Indian Wells main draw.<\/p>\n<h4>Will Emma Raducanu play?<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/emma-raducanu\">Emma Raducanu<\/a>\u2018s ranking has earned her direct entry into the Indian Wells main draw after she required a wildcard to play the first two WTA 1000 events of 2025 in Doha and Dubai.<\/p>\n<h4>Indian Wells 2025 WTA Singles Entry List and Projected Seeds (based on WTA Rankings as of 24 February 2025)<\/h4>\n<p>1.
