Andy Roddick has weighed in on Jannik Sinner\u2019s shock decision to part ways with two of his team members on the eve of Wimbledon.<\/p>\n
It was revealed this week that Sinner<\/a> had fired both his fitness trainer Marco Panichi and his physiotherapist Ulises Badio just days before the start of the season\u2019s third Grand Slam.<\/p>\n Both Panichi and Badio spent lengthy spells working with tennis legend Novak Djokovic before they\u00a0joined Sinner\u2019s team in September 2024.<\/p>\n The duo replaced Umberto Ferrara and Giacomo Naldi \u2014 who were axed by Sinner due to their roles in the Italian failing two doping tests in March last year.<\/p>\n Sinner, the world No 1, will aim to win his maiden Wimbledon<\/a> title and fourth Grand Slam in total.<\/p>\n The 23-year-old will face fellow countryman and world No 94 Luca Nardi in his opening match at the grass-court major.<\/p>\n Speaking on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast, journalist Jon Wertheim asked Roddick about Sinner\u2019s decision: \u201cWhat do we make of Sinner firing his trainer and physio on the eve of Wimbledon?<\/p>\n \u201cEspecially given sort of greater context there, strikes me as an interesting personnel move as you try to win your first Wimbledon.\u201d<\/p>\n Jannik Sinner explains shock decision to part ways with two team members<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Novak Djokovic asked about changes to his team and Jannik Sinner\u2019s shock move<\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n Roddick replied: \u201cThat\u2019s a really weird thing to do, yeah. On the eve of Wimbledon, you wouldn\u2019t\u2026 had to be something,\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know anything, but my guess would be that it has to be something off court, whether it\u2019s financial, whether it\u2019s an argument. This doesn\u2019t feel like what you would do when you\u2019re trying to win your first Wimbledon.<\/p>\n \u201cThis also sounds like it could be something that we will never know the answer to, at least publicly.\u201d<\/p>\n Djokovic gave his reaction to Sinner\u2019s move in his pre-Wimbledon press conference.<\/p>\n \u201cI did work with Marco and Uli, and I think they are phenomenal professionals that both have contributed also a lot to me, to my team, to my success,\u201d said the 24-time major winner.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t know what the reasons are for the split with Jannik. It came as a surprise to me as well because I think Jannik\u2019s game and body really has improved so much in the last year, year and a half. They\u2019ve been an integral part of that team. I don\u2019t know, to be honest.
