{"id":68,"date":"2025-02-24T13:17:51","date_gmt":"2025-02-24T13:17:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=68"},"modified":"2025-02-24T13:17:51","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T13:17:51","slug":"atp-indian-wells-2025-entry-list-novak-djokovic-carlos-alcaraz-alexander-zverev-headline-as-two-wildcards-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=68","title":{"rendered":"ATP Indian Wells 2025 Entry List: Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev headline as two wildcards revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the 2025 season will take place in Indian Wells, and the entry list features a host of star names.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s Indian Wells Open, which will run from March 5 to 16, will be the 51st edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/category\/atp-tour\">ATP<\/a> tournament.<\/p>\n<p>The hard-court event in the Californian desert is one of the most prestigious tournaments outside of the four majors and it has at times been referred to as the \u2018fifth Grand Slam.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> is the two-time reigning Indian Wells champion, having downed Daniil Medvedev\u00a0in the last two championship matches.<\/p>\n<p>The Spanish star will compete with Alexander Zverev and Novak Djokovic, but world No 1 Jannik Sinner will not play as he is banned until May 4 due to failing doping tests. Zverev is set to be the top seed in Sinner\u2019s absence.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul will lead the American interest as they are both set to be seeded in the top eight, while Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe will be among the top 20 seeds.<\/p>\n<h4>How many players will feature in the main draw?<\/h4>\n<p>The Indian Wells men\u2019s singles main draw will feature 96 players, a total consisting of 79 direct entrants, 12 qualifiers and five wildcards.<\/p>\n<h4>Which players have received wildcards?<\/h4>\n<p>Two of the five players who will receive main draw wildcards have been announced and they are: Joao Fonseca and Learner Tien.<\/p>\n<p>Fonseca, an 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy, is ranked 78th after he recently won his maiden ATP title at the Argentina Open.<\/p>\n<p>World No 83 Tien, a 19-year-old who made a stunning run to the fourth round of the 2025 Australian Open as a qualifier, is one of the brightest young American prospects.<\/p>\n<h4>Have any players withdrawn?<\/h4>\n<p>As things stand, Sinner \u2014 who was forced to pull out due to his aforementioned doping ban \u2014 is the only man to withdraw.<\/p>\n<h2>ATP Tour News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/men-most-hard-court-atp-500-titles-roger-federer-novak-djokovic\"><strong>The 5 men who have won the most hard-court ATP 500 titles: Novak Djokovic 2nd, Roger Federer on 21<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/atp-tour\/atp-rankings-jannik-sinners-rivals-falter-jack-draper-career-high-lucky-loser-camilo-ugo-carabelli-22\"><strong>ATP Rankings: Jannik Sinner\u2019s rivals falter, Jack Draper career high, lucky loser Camilo Ugo Carabelli +22<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Which former champions will play?<\/h4>\n<p>Four former Indian Wells champions have entered: Alcaraz (2023 and 2024), Djokovic (2008, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016), Fritz (2022) and Cameron Norrie (2021).<\/p>\n<h4>Have any players used a protected ranking to enter?<\/h4>\n<p>Players who have been unable to compete in any tournaments due to injury for a minimum of six months are eligible to use the ATP protected ranking system.<\/p>\n<p>The protected ranking will be determined by the player\u2019s average ranking position during the first three months of their injury.
