{"id":745,"date":"2025-07-19T13:24:19","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T13:24:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=745"},"modified":"2025-07-19T13:24:19","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T13:24:19","slug":"holger-rune-sparks-coaching-rumours-after-being-spotted-training-alongside-andre-agassi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=745","title":{"rendered":"Holger Rune sparks coaching rumours after being spotted training alongside Andre Agassi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Holger Rune has been spotted training in Washington under the watchful eye of Andre Agassi, sparking rumours that the two are trialling a player-coach relationship.<\/p>\n<p>The Dane\u2019s coaching situation has remained flexible throughout his career, with Kenneth Carlsen currently filling the role, whilst Patrick Mouratoglou \u2013 a highly esteemed coach \u2013 having split with Rune in July 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The former world No 1 had previously worked with Novak Djokovic from 2017 until 2018, before joining Grigor Dimitrov\u2019s team from 2018 until 2020.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/andre-agassi\">Agassi<\/a> wouldn\u2019t be the first former Grand Slam champion to join <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/holger-rune\">Rune\u2019s<\/a> team, with Boris Becker having occupied the lead role from October 2023 until February 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>A pretty legendary guy was out on the practice court working with <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/holgerrune2003?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@holgerrune2003<\/a> on Friday in Washington, D.C.<br \/>\nRead on to find out more.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Dj7bi1rkAf\">https:\/\/t.co\/Dj7bi1rkAf<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GREsIKPMdy\">pic.twitter.com\/GREsIKPMdy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Stephanie Myles (@OpenCourt) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OpenCourt\/status\/1946381486598258848?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 19, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAfter working with the same coach for 15 years \u2014 my entire tennis life \u2014 it is not easy to find the perfect match on the first try,\u201d Rune admitted, after splitting with Becker in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have learned a lot and found out what is important for me to feel good and at the same time develop as I want. I have big ambitions and big goals, and I need people around me who have the same vision.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd people I can trust to achieve my goals. I need people who know me \u2013 who can be there all the time. It gives me security and joy in a world with changing environments and conditions every week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rune has had a mixed 2025 season, reaching the fourth round at both the Australian Open and the French Open, but being forced out of Rotterdam with illness and Acapulco due to food poisoning.<\/p>\n<p>After retiring at the Mexican event, he took three weeks to rest and recover, before making his first final in 15 months at Indian Wells \u2013 falling to Jack Draper \u2013 and crashing out in his opening match at the Miami Masters.<\/p>\n<p>On the clay, the incosistency continued, retiring whilst 6-2, 3-0 down to Pedro Martinez in Monte Carlo, but, later, producing some of his best-ever tennis on the surface in Barcelona by dethroning defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the showpiece match.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, Rune fell to Nicholas Jarry 4-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round of Wimbledon, with the one-time Masters 1000 winner putting the blame on knee pain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, if I play normal, I\u2019m beating him nine out of ten times, with all respect for Nicolas Jarry,\u201d said the Dane, during his post-loss Wimbledon press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously today didn\u2019t make it a lot easier with my knee, but yeah, it was not great.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFourth set, I started to feel my knee and then got some treatment. I don\u2019t know. I know what it is, and especially being extremely low on the grass, it can bother that area.
