{"id":746,"date":"2025-07-19T08:51:53","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T08:51:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=746"},"modified":"2025-07-19T08:51:53","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T08:51:53","slug":"carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinners-next-challenger-named-as-rising-star-tipped-to-threaten-dominance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=746","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Alcaraz &amp; Jannik Sinner\u2019s \u2018next challenger\u2019 named as rising star tipped to threaten dominance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jo\u00e3o Fonseca has been tipped as the \u201cnew challenger\u201d for Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz amid the pair\u2019s domination of men\u2019s tennis in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>World No 1 Sinner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wimbledon\/jannik-sinner-becomes-first-italian-win-wimbledon-carlos-alcaraz-streaks-ended\">defeated Alcaraz in four sets to win his first Wimbledon title last weekend<\/a>, just five weeks after they had met in the French Open final.<\/p>\n<p>On that occasion, it was world No 2 Alcaraz who prevailed, though Grand Slam success is something both have become accustomed to.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have combined<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/greatest-grand-slam-duopolies-carlos-alcaraz-jannik-sinner\"> to win the last seven straight major tournaments between them, one of the greatest Grand Slam men\u2019s singles duopolies<\/a> of the Open era.<\/p>\n<p>The last male player to win a Grand Slam title outside of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> was Novak Djokovic at the 2023 US Open, though the 24-year-old has reached just one major final since then.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner and Alcaraz have moved clear of the rest of the field with former potential challengers, such as Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, falling down in the ATP Rankings in recent months.<\/p>\n<p>With world No 3 Alexander Zverev also struggling to get over the Grand Slam hurdle, all eyes are on who could rival the Italian and the Spaniard in the future.<\/p>\n<p>Rising stars such as Jakub Mensik and Arthur Fils have been tipped in the past, though teen star Fonseca has consistently attracted attention.<\/p>\n<p>And, speaking on<a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/ausopen.com\/articles\/news\/its-sinner-and-alcaraz-then-daylight-so-whos-next\" target=\"_blank\"><em> The Tennis<\/em><\/a>, former ATP Tour player Luke Saville has tipped the Brazilian to rival the \u2018New Two\u2019 in the future.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cI feel like they\u2019re [Alcaraz and Sinner] clearly the two best in the men\u2019s game right now, and it\u2019s just great to see when they both go at it \u2013 amazing tennis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think everyone\u2019s looking at Fonseca to be the next challenger to those two.
