{"id":747,"date":"2025-07-20T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2025-07-20T09:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=747"},"modified":"2025-07-20T09:00:39","modified_gmt":"2025-07-20T09:00:39","slug":"jannik-sinner-and-iga-swiatek-drug-cheat-debate-reignites-after-pointed-comments-from-former-wimbledon-champion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=747","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek \u2018drug cheat\u2019 debate reignites after pointed comments from former Wimbledon champion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The debate over Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek\u2019s positive doping tests continues to be a huge talking point in tennis, with comments from former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash on the subject sparking a big reaction on social media.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner and Swiatek both posted positive doping tests last year, with both only handed moderate suspensions in what were viewed as controversial verdicts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/iga-swiatek-banned-from-tennis-drug-test\">Swiatek accepted a one-month suspension<\/a> at the back end of 2024 after successfully proving that a product she was using to help her sleep was contaminated, while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner\u2019s<\/a> case was a little more complex and continues to be a point of conjecture for many.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 1 claimed he had been contaminated after a member of his team applied a spray to treat a cut on his finger that contained an anabolic steroid.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner\u2019s legal team argued contaminated when the team member gave him a massage, with a one-year suspension looking likely until <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/news\/jannik-sinner-banned-from-tennis\">he agreed a deal with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to serve a three-month ban.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The timing of that suspension ensured he didn\u2019t miss any Grand Slam events and after missing match points against Carlos Alcaraz in the French Open final last month, Sinner then won his first Wimbledon title with a win against Alcaraz.<\/p>\n<h2>More Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-drug-ban-stunning-wimbledon-win\">Jannik Sinner struggling to escape drug ban controversy after stunning Wimbledon win<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wimbledon\/jannik-sinner-wimbledon-prize-all-time-list\">Jannik Sinner\u2019s Wimbledon prize money sees him overtake a legend in the all-time list<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some high-profile ex-players and journalists were quick to suggest the triumphs for Sinner and Swiatek were a bad look for tennis, but former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash gave some pointed advice to the critics of the duo with a passionate Instagram post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell done Jannik,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-iga-swiatek-drug-cheat-swipes-wimbledon\">said Cash, in a post on his Instagram account.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m happy for him and his team. Even ten minutes of homework. Just check out what other champions are saying and know about the drug testing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSwiatek and Sinner were contaminated. It was not performance-enhancing. If you think WADA and the International Tennis Integrity Unit don\u2019t do their homework and check this out, then you are absolutely insane.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo please stop this. It\u2019s misinformation. They are not drug cheats. They are the best players in the world for a reason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are great players, they are determined and focused. Their mental capacity is incredible when you think of what Sinner has been through.
