{"id":775,"date":"2025-07-25T11:39:06","date_gmt":"2025-07-25T11:39:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=775"},"modified":"2025-07-25T11:39:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T11:39:06","slug":"jannik-sinners-coaching-surprise-ahead-of-us-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=775","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner\u2019s coaching surprise ahead of US Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner will only have one coach in his player\u2019s box during his US Open title defence while it has also been confirmed that \u201cnothing\u2019s certain\u201d about Darren Cahill\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>Cahill announced at the start of the year that he would retire from coaching after the 2025 season, but there had been strong hints in recent weeks that the Australian could make a U-turn and remain on the coaching set-up in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>While there is speculation over his future, one thing is certain: Cahill won\u2019t accompany <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> to New York for the final Grand Slam of the year as Simone Vagnozzi confirmed to Italy\u2019s La Repubblica that the 59-year-old will take a short break.<\/p>\n<p>Vagnozzi will lead the coaching unit and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-u-turn-one-of-most-astonishing-pr-moves-tennis-history-nick-kyrgios-paul-mcnamee\">controversial fitness trainer Umberto Ferrara<\/a> is also set to be part of the team following his reappointment earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner parted ways with Ferrara and physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi last August following his two positive tests for clostebol in March 2024, but the former has rejoined with a statement confirming it is with \u201cimmediate effect\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It added: \u201cThe decision has been made in alignment with Jannik\u2019s management team as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and US Open.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It remains to be seen how long Cahill\u2019s break will be, but just a day earlier Vagnozzi admitted that it remains to be seen if <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinners-coach-makes-u-turn-on-retirement-decision-as-2026-plans-revealed\">he will change his mind about retirement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with ATP Tour, he stated: \u201cHonestly, nothing\u2019s certain at the moment. But we\u2019ll all be happy if Darren stays.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Jannik Sinner News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/who-is-umberto-ferrara-controversial-fitness-trainer-returns-to-jannik-sinners-team\"><strong>Fired physio at centre of Jannik Sinner doping case reacts as world No 1 rehires Umberto Ferrara<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-fired-physiotherapist-speaks-out-ferrara-rehired-giacomo-naldi\">Fired physio at centre of Jannik Sinner doping case reacts as world No 1 rehires Umberto Ferrara<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Vagnozzi and Cahill \u2013 who coached former world No 1s Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi in the past \u2013 have been part of Sinner\u2019s team since 2022 and under their guidance, the Italian won his maiden Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open and became world No 1 last June.<\/p>\n<p>Sinner also won the 2024 US Open and successfully defended his title at Melbourne Park at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n<p>The pairing of\u00a0Vagnozzi and Cahill then saw Sinner finish runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz at Roland Garros as he lost in five sets after the Spaniard saved three match points.<\/p>\n<p>But the 23-year-old hit bounced back at Wimbledon as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-coach-wimbledon-final-win-carlos-alcaraz\">the pair helped him to overcome his French Open heartbreak<\/a> by winning the grass-court Grand Slam.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership is certainly working well with Vagnozzi saying: \u201cI have to say that I\u2019m so lucky to have met someone like Darren, both professionally and personally. We connected immediately, and that undoubtedly helped us in our journey. It\u2019s never easy to find that chemistry, but we\u2019ve always prioritised Jannik\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn practice, we have different roles; I\u2019m responsible for the more technical and tactical side of things, and he is more in charge of the mental and emotional aspects.
