{"id":779,"date":"2025-07-26T11:14:33","date_gmt":"2025-07-26T11:14:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=779"},"modified":"2025-07-26T11:14:33","modified_gmt":"2025-07-26T11:14:33","slug":"surprising-jannik-sinner-report-labelled-absolutely-fake-news-by-legendary-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=779","title":{"rendered":"Surprising Jannik Sinner report\u00a0labelled \u2018absolutely fake news\u2019 by legendary coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brad Gilbert has rubbished reports that Jannik Sinner\u2019s coach Darren Cahill will not be working with the Italian at the 2025 US Open.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Italian newspaper\u00a0<em>la Repubblica<\/em> reported that Simone Vagnozzi would be Sinner\u2019s only coach at the New York Grand Slam as they claimed Cahill will take \u201ca short break.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a>\u00a0has been coached by former Italian player Vagnozzi since February 2022, while Cahill joined the team in July 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The coaching unit has been hugely successful, with Sinner winning four of the last seven Grand Slams and holding the world No 1 ranking since June 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert, a former coach of Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick and Coco Gauff, works alongside Cahill as an analyst and commentator for ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>In reply to a Twitter post sharing the claim that Cahill will miss the US Open, Gilbert made it clear that he expects the Australian to be at Flushing Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the record this is completely fake news,\u201d wrote the former world No 4.<\/p>\n<p>Cahill is a former ATP player and renowned coach who previously guided Andre Agassi, Lleyton Hewitt and Simona Halep to Grand Slam titles and world No 1.<\/p>\n<h2>Jannik Sinner News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\/jannik-sinners-coaching-surprise-ahead-us-open-title-defence\"><strong>Jannik Sinner\u2019s coaching surprise ahead of US Open<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-did-not-want-to-fire-umberto-ferrara-claim\"><strong>Jannik Sinner claimed to have \u2018wanted\u2019 controversial fitness trainer back despite doping row<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Australian was expected to leave Sinner\u2019s team at the end of the 2025 season after it was announced at the start of the year that he would be retiring from coaching on the tour.<\/p>\n<p>However, Cahill has not fully closed the door on continuing his partnership with Sinner. Italian newspaper\u00a0Il Corriere della Sera claimed after Sinner\u2019s Wimbledon triumph earlier this month that Cahill will remain on the Italian\u2019s team in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In his press conference following the Wimbledon final, Sinner revealed the decision on Cahill\u2019s future was in in his hands after winning a bet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt depends on whether I want to tell the truth or not,\u201d Sinner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a bet before the final. I told him, \u2018If I win tomorrow, I can decide whether you stay until the end of the year or not.\u2019 Now the choice is mine!<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always looked for an honest person. Someone who gives me so much, not just on the tennis court, but in life outside of it, about how to live both in victories and disappointments. And he\u2019s very good. If I choose to stay with him, he probably won\u2019t travel so much anymore. That\u2019s normal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll have to see about that too. But I\u2019ve always said, back in Australia, that I\u2019d like to have him, because things are going well. Now we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe season is still nothing, there are still so many tournaments to go, and I\u2019ll still see him a lot. You never know. But let\u2019s say I won the bet and now it\u2019s up to me to decide, we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked this week by the ATP Tour whether Cahill will stay, Vagnozzi said:\u00a0\u201cHonestly, nothing\u2019s certain at the moment.
