{"id":849,"date":"2025-08-10T16:08:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-10T16:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=849"},"modified":"2025-08-10T16:08:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-10T16:08:22","slug":"victoria-mbokos-coach-explains-cincinnati-open-decision-as-she-sends-out-us-open-warning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=849","title":{"rendered":"Victoria Mboko\u2019s coach explains Cincinnati Open decision as she sends out US Open warning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Victoria Mboko\u2019s coach Nathalie Tauziat has backed her player\u2019s US Open chances as she discussed the Canadian\u2019s decision to pull out of the Cincinnati Open.<\/p>\n<p>Teen star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/victoria-mboko\">Mboko<\/a> stunned the tennis world with her epic Canadian Open triumph this past week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/prize-money-and-points-earned-by-victoria-mboko-and-naomi-osaka-in-montreal\">rallying from a set down to beat Naomi Osaka in the final<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ranked 85th in the world coming into her home event, having needed a wildcard to enter the draw, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/wta-rankings-aryna-sabalenka-50-not-out-victoria-mboko-and-naomi-osaka-top-25-emma-raducanu-6\">the 18-year-old has now surged up to a staggering new career-high of world No 24<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That is more than enough for Mboko to be seeded at the US Open towards the end of August, in what will be her third Grand Slam appearance.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian came through qualifying to make her Grand Slam debut at the French Open, reaching round three, before making the second round of Wimbledon as a lucky loser.<\/p>\n<p>Mboko beat four Grand Slam champions, including Osaka, to triumph in Montreal, though she will not play between her win and her maiden US Open main-draw appearance.<\/p>\n<p>The Canadian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/victoria-mboko-and-naomi-osaka-special-cincinnati-open-benefit\">was initially given a special exemption into the second round of the Cincinnati Open<\/a>, the second of two back-to-back hard-court WTA 1000 events held on North American hard courts.<\/p>\n<p>However, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wta-tour\/victoria-mboko-gives-huge-injury-cincinnati-open-after-fairytale-canadian-open-run\">having nursed a wrist injury towards the end of her successful Montreal campaign<\/a>, Mboko ultimately withdrew from the tournament in Ohio.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/what-emma-raducanu-aryna-sabalenka-said-blockbuster-cincinnati-open-clash\">What Emma Raducanu and Aryna Sabalenka said ahead of blockbuster Cincinnati Open clash<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/rafael-nadal-wife-mery-welcome-second-child-reason-name-revealed\">Rafael Nadal and his wife welcome a second child as reason for name is revealed<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mboko\u2019s career is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/who-is-victoria-mbokos-coach-how-former-wimbledon-finalist-is-guiding-rising-star\">currently being guided by the hugely experienced Tauziat<\/a>, a former world No 3 and runner-up at Wimbledon in 1998.<\/p>\n<p>Having previously worked with Canadian stars such as Eugenie Bouchard, Leylah Fernandez, and Bianca Andreescu, Tauziat has a wealth of knowledge to bring to Mboko\u2019s burgeoning career.<\/p>\n<p>And the Frenchwoman has now revealed that holding the long-term goal of the US Open was key to the teen star\u2019s decision to ultimately not head to Cincinnati, and instead rest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter Roland Garros, when we defined the schedule up to the US Open, we set some goals,\u201d said Tauziat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on the way she\u2019s playing, we know she\u2019s capable of doing something big in New York.
