{"id":876,"date":"2025-08-15T11:15:47","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T11:15:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=876"},"modified":"2025-08-15T11:15:47","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T11:15:47","slug":"jannik-sinner-reveals-reason-for-rehiring-fitness-trainer-he-fired-over-his-failed-doping-tests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=876","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner reveals reason for rehiring fitness trainer he fired over his failed doping tests\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner has revealed why he rehired Umberto Ferrara after previously sacking the fitness trainer in the aftermath of his failed doping tests.<\/p>\n<p>On July 23, it was announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/jannik-sinner-makes-surprise-u-turn-rehires-sacked-fitness-coach\">that Ferrara had made a surprise return to Sinner\u2019s team<\/a> just over a week after he won Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision has been made in alignment with Jannik\u2019s management team as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and US Open,\u201d a statement from Sinner\u2019s team read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUmberto has played an important role in Jannik\u2019s development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a>\u00a0made the decision less than a month after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/wimbledon\/jannik-sinner-explains-shock-decision-to-part-ways-with-two-team-members\">he fired fitness trainer Marco Panichi and physiotherapist Ulises Badio on the eve of Wimbledon<\/a>. Panichi and Badio previously spent long spells working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 1 fired both Ferrara and his former physio Giacomi Naldi ahead of the 2024 US Open after it was revealed he had failed two doping tests in March last year.<\/p>\n<p>In his pre-tournament press conference at the 2025 Cincinnati Open, Sinner refused to offer any further details when asked about his choice to reappoint Ferrara.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, I think we said it all, everything in the statement,\u201d the four-time Grand Slam champion said. \u201cI\u2019m very happy to be here and play again this tournament.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Italian was asked about the topic again after his quarter-final win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in Cincinnati, and this time he explained Ferrara\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a different situation. Now everything is different. I felt like, at this point, I needed someone who knew my body better,\u201d the 23-year-old said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe worked together for about two years before this break. I\u2019ve always had a good feeling about Umberto.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the 2024 US Open, Sinner revealed he had lost confidence in Naldi and Ferrara as he addressed their departures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to start with [saying] that they have been a huge part of my career,\u201d Sinner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe made an incredible job, bringing a lot of success and then having a great team behind me. Now, because of these mistakes, I\u2019m not feeling that confident to continue with them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was struggling a lot in the last months.
