{"id":897,"date":"2025-08-20T15:43:55","date_gmt":"2025-08-20T15:43:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=897"},"modified":"2025-08-20T15:43:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-20T15:43:55","slug":"coco-gauff-make-shock-coaching-decision-just-days-before-us-open-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=897","title":{"rendered":"Coco Gauff make shock coaching decision just days before US Open campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Coco Gauff has reportedly split with her leading coach just days before the start of her US Open campaign.<\/p>\n<p><em>ESPN<\/em> reported on Wednesday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/coco-gauff\">Gauff<\/a>, the 2023 US Open champion and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/news\/coco-gauff-ends-aryna-sabalenkas-grand-slam-streak-third-american-woman-win-french-open\"> reigning Roland Garros champion<\/a>, had parted ways with Matt Daly.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 3 hired Daly last Autumn off the back of her split with former coach Brad Gilbert, looking to work on her serving technique.<\/p>\n<p>Daly, known as a grip specialist, had an immediate impact on the American\u2019s game, with Gauff winning the China Open and WTA Finals at the end of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff would go on to reach the Madrid Open and Italian Open finals earlier this spring, before capturing her second Grand Slam singles title with victory over Aryna Sabalenka at the French Open.<\/p>\n<p>However, the American was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/coco-gauff-beaten-by-dayana-yastremska-wimbledon\">then beaten in the opening round of Wimbledon this summer<\/a>, and has struggled with her serve across the hard-court swing.<\/p>\n<p>Gauff hit<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/most-double-faults-served-in-a-wta-match\"> a career-high 23 double faults during her opening-match Canadian Open win versus Danielle Collins<\/a>, and a further 14 against Veronika Kudermetova in round three.<\/p>\n<p>The 21-year-old would then lose to Victoria Mboko in the fourth round, and was beaten in the Cincinnati Open quarter-finals by Jasmine Paolini.<\/p>\n<h2>Tennis News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/coco-gauff-leaves-wta-star-concerned-us-open-2025\">Why Coco Gauff has left a former world No 6 \u2018concerned\u2019 ahead of the US Open<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-features\/no-1-battle-wta-rankings-aryna-sabalenka-v-iga-swiatek-v-coco-gauff\">No 1 battle in WTA Rankings: Aryna Sabalenka v Iga Swiatek v Coco Gauff<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Speaking after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tennis-news\/coco-gauff-disappointed-verdict-double-faults-continue-montreal\">her three-set win over Kudermetova in Montreal<\/a>, Gauff admitted that her ongoing struggles were a disappointment.<\/p>\n<p>She said: \u201cObviously, I am disappointed in myself when it comes to that part of the game because I didn\u2019t play D.C. [Citi DC Open] to work on that and made changes to that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoing well in practice and serving really well in practice. I just would like it to transfer to the match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I probably won\u2019t be ever double fault-free, but if I could get that to 2%, 3%, it would make a big difference in just making these matches a lot easier.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is now reported that Gauff, who is practising in New York ahead of the US Open, has parted ways with Daly after just 10 months together.<\/p>\n<p>The American was initially also reported to have split with J.C.
