{"id":926,"date":"2025-08-25T05:00:42","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T05:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=926"},"modified":"2025-08-25T05:00:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T05:00:42","slug":"novak-djokovic-surprised-after-physical-struggles-time-warning-and-unforced-errors-during-us-open-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=926","title":{"rendered":"Novak Djokovic \u2018surprised\u2019 after physical struggles, time warning and unforced errors during US Open win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Novak Djokovic secured a straight-set first-round win over Learner Tien at the US Open to extend his Arthur Ashe record, but he was the first to admit that there were a lot of question marks over his performance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/the-men-with-the-most-grand-slam-main-draw-appearances-djokovic-federer\">Making his 19th main draw appearance at Flushing Meadows<\/a>, Djokovic was quick out of the blocks before he started to struggle and then eventually found his rhythm again to wrap up a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 victory over the American.<\/p>\n<p>In the process, he recorded his 80th win on the famous Arthur Ashe Stadium \u2013 the most by a man \u2013 with former rivals Roger Federer second on 77 and Rafael Nadal on 64, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Djokovic<\/a> acknowledged that it was a messy performance as he received a second time violation during the second-set tie-breaker, resulting in him losing his first serve, and he went on to lose the point after his second serve.<\/p>\n<p>His first time violation came early in the match and he had an argument with the chair umpire asking, \u201cDid you really have to do that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the set, he required treatment and revealed after the match that he wasn\u2019t quite sure what was wrong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, I started great. Just over 20 minutes, first set, I felt really good. Then some long games to start the second set, and then I start to feel really \u2013 I don\u2019t know why. I really was surprised how bad I was feeling in the second physically,\u201d the 24-time Grand Slam winner said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYeah, we had long exchanges, but also, I kind of dropped my level and made a lot of unforced errors and kind of got him back into the match. I\u2019m glad that I kind of reset myself after second set. And the third one was \u2013 the third set was okay to finish up the match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are positive aspects, but also things I hope don\u2019t happen, like, for example, how I felt physically in the second set. I don\u2019t know,\u201d he said. \u201cI don\u2019t have any injury or anything. It was just very hard for me to stay in long rallies and recover after points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my case, I haven\u2019t played an official match in six weeks.
