{"id":950,"date":"2025-08-29T11:45:31","date_gmt":"2025-08-29T11:45:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=950"},"modified":"2025-08-29T11:45:31","modified_gmt":"2025-08-29T11:45:31","slug":"iga-swiatek-left-in-disbelief-as-us-open-journalist-storms-out-of-press-conference-after-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=950","title":{"rendered":"Iga Swiatek left in disbelief as US Open journalist storms out of press conference after row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After coming through a difficult second round match at the 2025 US Open, Iga Swiatek was left stunned and irritated by a question she was asked in her post-match press conference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/iga-swiatek\">Swiatek<\/a> defeated world No 66 Suzan Lamens 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 in Arthur Ashe Stadium to progress to the third round at Flushing Meadows, where she is chasing her second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\">US Open<\/a> title and seventh Grand Slam crown.<\/p>\n<p>The world No 2 won the opening set routinely and looked on course for a convincing win as she was twice up a break at 2-1 and 4-3 in the second set. The Pole was, however, derailed by issues with her forehand late in the second set, while her 26-year-old Dutch opponent impressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI served better [in the third set] than in the previous sets,\u201d Swiatek said in her on-court interview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to be pretty confident with my serve and go for it. I\u2019m happy that I closed it pretty fast, even though I lost one break.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt wasn\u2019t an easy match and I made some mistakes. Some scream on the court, some quarrel, some enter the court with labubu dolls. Have you ever thought of, I don\u2019t know, putting beads in your hair (translated from Polish)?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swiatek, who was visibly taken aback and annoyed by the question, responded: \u201cWhat kind of question is that? Did you think about putting beads in your hair? No. What\u2019s going on here? What sort of a question was that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moczerniuk can be seen walking out of the press conference after Swiatek\u2019s reaction, with the Polish star staring at the reporter and shaking her head.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p>Tell me it\u2019s not real\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The question is whether Iga wanted to weave beads into her hair <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/CBDV5EFw3m\">pic.twitter.com\/CBDV5EFw3m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 S.|198km\/h<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/15.1.0\/72x72\/26a1.png\" alt=\"\u26a1\" class=\"wp-smiley\" \/>| (@Sarilec) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sarilec\/status\/1961145720825630866?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 28, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On his Twitter\/X account, Moczerniuk addressed the backlash he has faced and explained his intention was to \u201clighten the mood\u201d after a \u201ctense\u201d press conference.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe conversation with Iga got a bit out of hand,\u201d Moczerniuk wrote. \u201cUnfortunately, I got caught in the crossfire because she didn\u2019t like that I asked if \u2014 since New Yorkers like a show \u2014 she had ever thought about lightly shocking them, for example, by weaving beads into her hair.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to understand the whole context. The end of the conference was tense, and I wanted to lighten the mood a bit and ask a casual, relaxed question. But it turned out as it did, and I can\u2019t turn back time.
