{"id":976,"date":"2025-09-04T12:45:39","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T12:45:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=976"},"modified":"2025-09-04T12:45:39","modified_gmt":"2025-09-04T12:45:39","slug":"jannik-sinner-vs-carlos-alcaraz-who-is-in-pole-position-for-no-1-ranking-at-us-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tennisring.com\/?p=976","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz: Who is in pole position for No 1 ranking at US Open?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are the favourites to meet for the third straight Grand Slam final at the 2025 US Open, and the world No 1 ranking will be on the line if the pair do face off.<\/p>\n<p>In the last four at Flushing Meadows, Sinner will take on world No 27 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/felix-auger-aliassime\">Felix-Auger Aliassime<\/a>, while Alcaraz will play seventh seed and 24-time Grand Slam champion <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/novak-djokovic\">Novak Djokovic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/jannik-sinner\">Sinner<\/a> has been the ATP world No 1 for 65 consecutive weeks since overtaking Djokovic to ascend to top spot for the first time in June 2024 \u2014 following last year\u2019s French Open.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/tag\/carlos-alcaraz\">Alcaraz<\/a> became the youngest world No 1 in ATP history after winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the 2022 US Open at the age of 19 years and four months.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old has spent 36 weeks of his career to date as the world\u2019s highest-ranked player, with his most recent spell on top ending in September 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In the last event before the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/us-open\">US Open<\/a>, Alcaraz won the Cincinnati Masters after Sinner was forced to retire due to illness in the first set of the pair\u2019s meeting in the final.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz, who is the world No 2, started the US Open on 9,590 points \u2014\u00a0 1,890 points behind Sinner, who had 11,480.<\/p>\n<p>While this was a sizeable gap, Sinner and Alcaraz\u2019s respective performances at the 2024 US Open created the opportunity for there to be a change at the top of the rankings after this year\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<h2>US Open News<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tennis365.com\/facts-stats\/jannik-sinner-carlos-alcaraz-could-make-open-era-history-us-open-final-clash\"><strong>How Jannik Sinner &amp;
